Fundraiser
Our Tent Sale is one of NewLife’s key fundraising events, where we showcase delicious African dishes from various countries and present handmade products created by women and youth through our NewLife Designs Marketing and Sales Division.
This event brings the Ottawa and Gatineau communities together, offering an opportunity to learn about and celebrate Black culture—its cuisine, traditions, and values. The Tent Sale also serves as an important fundraiser that directly supports our Sewing and French Language Programs, as well as our annual Backpack and School Supplies Project for students in Sierra Leone and Côte d'Ivoire.
In addition to the Tent Sale, we host fashion shows that highlight our products and promote the creativity and artistry of Black culture and tradition. These events help increase sales, build visibility, and sustain our community programs.
This year, we launched a Sponsorship Campaign to strengthen support for our classes. Individuals and organizations can become Proud Sponsors of any of our programs. Sponsorship helps provide mental wellness support, build community connections, and equip participants with valuable, income-generating skills. Through our training, women and youth learn sewing techniques, communication and time-management skills, and the foundations of launching small businesses or social enterprises.
To date, more than 180 women and youth have gained sewing skills through our programs. Additionally, over the years, NewLife Project Inc. has supported over 150 clients at various stages of their French language learning journey—including those preparing for Federal Government-level proficiency.
